The Unité de Médecine et Traumatologie du Sport of the Hôpital Sainte-Musse, within the Centre Hospitalier Intercommunal Toulon – La Seyne-sur-Mer, organized a day of exchanges and training on September 12 dedicated to the complex interactions between physical activity, health and performance.

Under the responsibility of Dr Jean-Jacques Raymond, department head and president of the medical commission of the Ligue Sud de Rugby, this first Congrès Sport et Santé 2026 was held at the Domaine de la Baratonne.

The event, organized in partnership with the Association Alliance Sport Santé Innovation and Arsylab®, was aimed at healthcare professionals as well as anyone involved in the field of health sport. The goal was to create a crossroads of knowledge by bringing together doctors, surgeons, researchers, psychologists and paramedical professionals.

A comprehensive approach to athlete health

The program was designed to cover a wide spectrum of concrete issues. Speakers from the CHITS, the Université de Toulon and other specialized structures addressed topics as varied as specific pathologies in women's sports, the latest advances in ligament surgery, or the challenges of nutrition and micro-nutrition.

Also at the heart of the debates were the challenges of aging in relation to performance, the support of disorders such as autism and addictions through adapted sport, as well as essential aspects such as mental preparation, sleep and biological rhythms.

Renowned athletes to testify

To enrich the discussions and provide a field perspective, the congress welcomed several renowned athletes. Stéphane Mifsud, holder of the world record in static apnea, Thomas Loubersanes, crowned 2019 world champion in all categories of Brazilian jiu-jitsu, and Laurent Charvet, former international professional footballer, shared their experience of high performance, their approach to physical and mental preparation and their vision of athlete health.

Exchanges and practical workshops

Beyond the sole quest for performance, this meeting aimed to integrate sport into a prevention and health approach. Round tables and times for exchange promoted dialogue between practitioners, researchers and athletes, allowing them to compare practices and enrich their respective knowledge.

The day concluded with practical workshops on ultrasound-guided infiltrations, led by Dr Ivan Prothoy, sports doctor, and Dr Coralie Leroyer, interventional rheumatologist in Hyères.
