Sun'box, French expertise in prevention

On June 18, the Ville inaugurated a Sunbox, a free sunscreen dispenser, to strengthen the prevention of risks related to the sun. As part of its Plan canicule 2026, the Ville set up this innovative sun prevention device, put into service near the play area of parc Gensollen.

This initiative aims to protect residents, and particularly children and families, from the dangers associated with exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation. The inauguration took place in the presence of Magali Gini, deputy for social action, inclusion, and solidarity, and Audrey Avallone, coordinator of the Communauté Professionnelle Territoriale de Santé (CPTS), partners in the project.

A major issue

This local action responds to a national health concern. According to health authorities, more than 80% of skin cancers are attributable to overexposure to the sun, with more than 100,000 new cases diagnosed every year in France.

Faced with this observation, the Sunbox aims to encourage the adoption of good habits and make sun protection accessible to all, freely and simply. The terminal installed in parc Gensollen dispenses contactless, high-quality sunscreen with an SPF50+ protection index. The infrared sensor dispensing system guarantees perfect hygiene.

Beyond distribution, the device integrates an educational dimension thanks to signage recalling prevention messages. The terminal is at the disposal of the Farlédois throughout the summer period. This project is the result of a collaboration between the Ville, the Centre Communal d'Action Sociale (CCAS) and the CPTS. Funding is provided two-thirds by the CPTS and one-third by the commune.

A French and responsible solution

The Sun'box concept is developed by a French company founded in 2011. The terminals, manufactured in France from robust and recyclable materials, are designed to withstand the constraints of public spaces.

The SPF50+ UVA/UVB sunscreen, also made in France, is tested without nanoparticles or filters suspected of being endocrine disruptors, and is respectful of marine ecosystems. The company, which has nearly 3,000 terminals in service, has already deployed its solutions in Paris during Paris Plages, La Rochelle or in several ski resorts.
