Thierry Maréchal: “A quarter of a century of commitment and memories”
After 25 years in Le Lavandou, the DGS Thierry Maréchal joins the town hall of Hyères, marking the end of an era for the local authority.
A major page is turning for the town hall of Le Lavandou. On June 15, Thierry Maréchal, Director General of Services (DGS), left his position to join the city of Hyères-les-Palmiers in the same role.
A farewell ceremony, filled with deep emotion, was organized in the reception hall of the Hôtel de Ville in the presence of the mayor, Bertrand Carletti, elected officials, former colleagues, and municipal employees.
A pillar of local administration
Arriving in September 2001 as Deputy Director General, Thierry Maréchal climbed the ranks to become a pillar of the local administration, supervising recruitment, budgets, and the follow-up of structuring projects for the municipality.
In a poignant speech, the man whom many saw as a purely administrative figure revealed a deep and personal attachment to the “cité des dauphins”.
After twenty-five years spent within the town hall of Le Lavandou, the time has come for me to turn a page. An immense page. A page made of work, commitment, passion, friendships, love, doubts sometimes, but above all of memories deeply anchored in my heart. When I arrived here, in September 2001, as Deputy Director General of Services, I did not imagine that this adventure would last a quarter of a century. Nor did I imagine how much this municipality would become a part of myself.
PROUST'S MADELEINE
The DGS shared a more personal part of his history with the town, explaining that his connection with Le Lavandou had much older roots, forged in childhood memories.
I, the child of the North, believe that Le Lavandou was already part of my story long before my professional arrival. It was the place of my summers as a child. Of my holidays, between my five and my fifteen years. […] And above all, there was the beach of La Fossette. La Fossette, my Proust's madeleine. This beach, these landscapes, this very special light of Le Lavandou accompanied my childhood long before accompanying my professional life. So yes, when I arrived here in 2001, it was not a coincidence. It was probably a meeting with a land that had been waiting for me for a long time.

Keep as long as possible the joy you had on the day of your recruitment or your arrival at this Mairie. Keep this flame. Keep this desire to serve. […] Serving a municipality, serving its inhabitants, participating in the daily life of others… it has meaning. A real meaning
The golden dolphin in recognition
As a thank you for his flawless involvement, the mayor wished him every success in his new duties and presented him with the famous golden dolphin, the highest mark of recognition from the Ville du Lavandou.
