A republican ceremony honored the world of education in Toulon. Jean-Louis Masson, President of the Department, presided over the presentation of the insignia of the Ordre des Palmes Académiques to three deserving recipients.

The event was held in the lounges of the Escale IGESA Casabianca, near the Préfecture du Var.

The solemnity of the occasion was enhanced by the presence of numerous prominent figures, including Josée Massi, Mayor of Toulon, who praised the commitment and career paths of the recipients in the service of education and culture.

Three exemplary career paths

The 2026 promotion distinguished three exemplary career paths. Françoise Wis, a member of the board of the Ordre de la Légion d’Honneur, received the insignia of Chevalier de l’Ordre des Palmes Académiques, in recognition of her dedication and contribution.

Two school heads were also promoted to a higher rank. Charles Albert and Gérard Espié, middle school principals, were promoted to the rank of Commandeur de l’Ordre des Palmes Académiques.

This distinction, the highest in the Order, testifies to a remarkable career and an exceptional commitment to youth and the educational institution.

A new dynamic

Beyond individual recognition, this ceremony was part of a desire for renewal driven by the local branches of the honorary orders.

The Var presidents of these institutions favor the development of "inter-order" relations to create synergies, notably between the Palmes Académiques and the Légion d’Honneur.

This approach aims to broaden fields of reflection and encourage positive exchanges among members. The objective is to foster a dynamic that is both "vertical," respecting hierarchy and transmission, and "horizontal," encouraging collaboration and the sharing of experiences.
