An essential duty of remembrance
On August 20, the village celebrated its liberation, marking the 82nd anniversary of the Provence Landing.
A look back at the 1944 liberation
On August 19, 1944, after the storming of the Mauvanne battery in Hyères a few hours earlier, the command post of the 9ème Division d'Infanterie Coloniale (DIIC) was established between Solliès-Pont and Solliès-Toucas. From here, the DIC was ready to engage to conquer the Coudon and La Valette-du-Var.
This was because the roadblock set up on the RD 554 by Wehrmacht soldiers was broken by the troops' assaults. The German occupier finally retreated to Solliès-Pont.
82 years later, the younger generations respected a duty of remembrance towards those who led this operation, whether they died or survived this wartime episode.
A day of commemoration and tribute
This commemoration, marked by speeches and the laying of wreaths, began with a patriotic ceremony in front of the town hall. It paid tribute to the soldiers, resistance fighters, and civilians who contributed to the liberation of the municipality. A strong moment of memory and transmission between generations.

It continued with a historical parade of vehicles organized by the "Août 44" association and the "l’Écho du Faron" brass band, and concluded with an aperitif offered by the Municipalité.
A festive and musical evening
In the evening, a delicious pistou soup delighted dozens of guests thanks to the Association des Commerçants et Artisans.
Finally, musical entertainment by Bâton Rouge and the Glenn Miller Tribute revived the spirit of the 1940s to the great delight of the participants.
