A major environmental and economic challenge

The MP for the third constituency, Stéphane Rambaud, welcomed the launch of the beach nourishment works at the plage de la Capte, an operation long awaited by residents, shopkeepers and users of the Hyères coastline.

This intervention aims to counter the effects of marine erosion which threatens one of the natural jewels of the department: the double tombolo de Giens. The protection of the presqu’île de Giens and its beaches is a priority issue for the municipality.

The tombolo, a fragile sand spit connecting Giens to the mainland, is a unique ecological site in the Mediterranean, but also a pillar of the local tourism economy. Faced with its growing vulnerability, observed for several years, action was becoming indispensable to preserve this heritage.

Political mobilization

Stéphane Rambaud recalls having actively followed this issue since his election, multiplying alerts to the competent authorities. He stresses that he notably questioned the Government through a written question to obtain guarantees on the resources allocated to the preservation of the site.

“This progress demonstrates that the mobilization of local and national elected officials is useful when it comes to defending the interests of our territory,” said the parliamentarian.

Need for a long-term vision

While the MP is delighted with the outcome of this project, supported by all the services mobilized, he insists that this nourishment operation can only be a temporary solution.
