Barely elected president of the Région Sud, François de Canson announced an emergency plan for high schools, endowed with a envelope of 6 million €. Two days after his election, he officialized the launch of a "Protocole Régional d’Urgence" following a visit to the lycée de l’Empéri in Salon-de-Provence.

This initiative aims to bring quick solutions to the difficulties encountered by high school students and educational staff.

Concrete measures and a firm response

To respond to the emergency, a reporting platform (https://maregionsud.fr/allolycees) has been put online. It allows students, parents, teachers and staff to anonymously submit their difficulties and suggestions.

A general audit of the region's establishments will be conducted, complemented by the establishment of departmental intervention brigades. These will prioritize technical emergencies such as heating, plumbing or building security.

Faced with acts of vandalism, the regional executive adopts a firm stance. Systematic support will be provided to headmasters who file complaints. In addition, 10,000 hours of community service (TIG) will be made available to the Justice system to be carried out in high schools.

Financial resources and strengthened consultation

An extraordinary meeting was held on October 20 with the 300 supervisors of the 4,000 regional high school staff in order to draw up an accurate assessment of needs on the ground.

On October 23, during the plenary assembly, François de Canson submitted an emergency envelope of 6 million € to the vote of elected officials. These funds will be allocated to repairing damage and renovating restrooms. Measures to improve the thermal comfort of buildings will also be funded.

Furthermore, on October 24, more than 200 young people gathered as part of the Parlement régional de la jeunesse to be involved in upcoming decisions.

François de Canson summarized his roadmap, combining dialogue and zero tolerance towards incivility: “When high school students speak to us, we must listen to them and provide them with concrete answers. This is the meaning of my commitment: to see, listen and act. In 48 hours, we have initiated the first measures to respond to the emergencies of our establishments. But understanding anger is not excusing disorder. There is no contradiction between listening and firmness, and every euro spent on repairing damage is a euro that cannot be invested elsewhere.”
