Municipal speed-dating to bring elected officials and staff closer

No dimmed lights, no soft music, but the gong was indeed present, marking the end of the fifteen minutes of discussion and the need to switch interlocutors.

While romance was not the goal, the speed-dating event organized by the Municipality adopted the codes of this method of finding a soulmate.

Getting to know each other better to work better together

With the election of the new municipal team, the aim was to establish a clear working foundation between the elected officials and the staff of the departments linked to their respective delegations.

The objective: to put a face to a name, to better understand the scope of actions, and the specificities of each other's work. These are welcome tools to deploy a policy in the best possible way with the resources offered by a municipality.

Yet these are often (very) different from those available in the private sector because procedures are more complex, the validation chain more dense, and the interaction between departments more tenuous.

The same observation of misunderstanding and different languages applied to the staff, called upon to work daily with elected officials whose agendas and political frameworks are far removed from the civil servant frame of reference.

Valuing the professions of the municipality

Initiated by the Directeur Général des Services (DGS) of the Ville, this morning provided some answers to these challenges, even if a few hours are not enough to cover all questions or understand the subtleties of each of the nearly 200 professions housed in the town hall.

The main goal remains to initiate and "value these tasks, which are often misunderstood and yet necessary for the proper functioning of the commune," as Mayor Julien Argento recalled.
