GUERRE DU FEU The Région Sud makes the preservation of its territory and the fight against fires one of its priorities through its Plan Guerre du Feu. Thus, since 2018, it has mobilized €35 million. In order to reinforce the monitoring of mountain ranges and raise public awareness of forest fire prevention, the Région has set up the Garde Régionale Forestière, made up of young people aged 18 to 25.

Addressing the new class, the vice-president of the Région said: "My dear young people, your mission is by no means small, and the training you have just started will confirm this to you. You had to prove your motivation, pass interviews, and follow this training, because the mission entrusted to you is as important as the stakes it represents: 9 out of 10 fires are caused by humans, 7 out of 10 fires are linked to acts of carelessness much more than to malicious acts. Personnel training and public awareness of risky behaviors contribute largely to the reduction of fire outbreaks.

"Effectively reinforcing information and monitoring of mountain ranges thanks to your deployment is a priority action of the Guerre du feu scheme that the Région launched in February 2018."

"This territory blessed by the gods must be preserved, and the Région has the capacity to act! Our forests are precious, they are our economic lung with the Var, the most wooded department in France," insisted the mayor of La Londe-les-Maures.

CREW SPIRIT During this ceremony, the president of the Comité Régional de Tourisme (CRT) presented the sponsor of the 2024 class: "If he is your sponsor, it is because he has an 'extra soul'. Ten years ago, in July 2014, he became Pacha of the MARPOM. In more conventional terms, he took the head of the Bataillon des Marins-Pompiers (BPM) of Marseille.

Commander of the Bataillon des Marins-Pompiers, commander of the Marine in Marseille. And this, for a record duration... 5 years and 3 months, unheard of!

You take the lead of this historical heritage with 2,500 military men and women, the unit of the Marine nationale with the largest workforce.

Incarnation of Marseille pride (...) You commanded the operations of two major events that affected this city. You were there during the sad attack at Gare Saint-Charles, in October 2017.

There again, at the head of your men, night and day, in the rubble of the rue d'Aubagne the following year. You embody the crew spirit, recalling that on a boat everyone is important because it is always the weakest who makes the real strength of the whole unit. This capacity to see a team as a whole, to bring together what is distant.

"In 2019, you left your duties after 40 years of service to the Royale."

Attached to the sea and youth, amiral Garié holds the position of director of the Campus des Métiers et des Qualifications de l'Économie de la mer. And, he directs the prospective of the training pole of the UIMM. He embodies this exemplary value. That is why the 2024 class of the Garde Régionale Forestière proudly bears his name.
