Jean-Michel Eynard-Tomatis: "The health issue is paramount for the Hyèrois"

According to the latest polls, the French rank security-related issues as their primary concern, followed in second place by purchasing power issues. "major concerns, and in my desire to meet the expectations of my fellow citizens, I choose to focus on the priority ranked 3rd by the French, which is paramount for the Hyèrois, and too often avoided or made invisible by candidates, namely the health issue. The Hyèrois know my particular sensitivity to this subject, and I am convinced that many of you have faced, either for a loved one or for yourselves, a problem regarding healthcare provision or access to care," explains Jean-Michel Eynard-Tomatis.

CREATING A HARMONIOUS LINK

The candidate for the 2026 municipal elections continues: "The mayor must always keep in mind that Hyères is a territory rich in healthcare facilities. First with the public hospital, which is part of the Centre Hospitalier Intercommunal Toulon - La Seyne-sur-Mer (CHITS), then with the Hôpital Renée Sabran, which belongs to the hospices civils de Lyon, without forgetting the establishments of the assistance publique de Paris (Hôpital San Salvadour), the Hôpital Léon Bérard, private medical and rehabilitation establishments, and finally, the EHPADs." According to the former hospital practitioner: "The difficulty lies in the need to create a harmonious link between all these establishments. Healthcare provision also includes private practice, with all the constraints that public authorities impose on it. Currently, around 4,500 Hyèrois over the age of 17 do not have a primary care physician, around 500 of whom suffer from chronic pathologies. These numbers will increase within two years due to the retirement of certain practitioners. Promising innovative initiatives, appreciated for their effectiveness, have emerged (notably the short-lived Carré Villette) but succumbed to administrative constraints." Today, in this jungle of statuses and establishments, the conductor must be the Agence Régionale de Santé (ARS), responsible for establishing the Schéma d'Organisation des Soins (SROS), granting or denying the necessary authorizations for an activity, and harmonizing all these activities. However, recent changes in healthcare provision in Hyères justify that the mayor should be in a position to be informed and not reduced to merely suffering the consequences of administrative decisions.

ACCESS TO CARE

Jean-Michel Eynard-Tomatis adds: "Our municipal project consists of creating a monitoring unit at city hall for access to care issues for the Hyèrois, so as to anticipate them rather than just endure them. Either we let administrations have their way, or we get involved and control in order to influence their decisions. But healthcare provision and health in the broad sense also mean prevention, risk assessment, exposure to radon, for example, taking into account disabilities and mental health, and applying the rules of the loi Egalim in school cafeterias." For Stéphane Rambaud's deputy in the Assemblée nationale: "These are all subjects that will be taken into account by the municipal unit, which will have all the resources to continue and, if necessary, relaunch measurement and protection procedures against exposure to radon, this odorless, potentially carcinogenic telluric gas to which the city of Hyères is exposed." On the ground, the ARS and the ASNR (Autorité de Sûreté Nucléaire Radioprotection) have for several years recommended preventive and monitoring measures, the application of which must be verified or resumed. To develop infrastructure that facilitates the daily lives of the Hyèrois who have disabilities, by focusing on accessibility issues, the installation of audible pedestrian crossings, and the creation of a handi-leisure center. "By doing so, we will seriously take to heart the 3rd concern of our fellow citizens," concludes the local official.•
